Russia announced partial mobilization this morning. On our building site everybody is talking about nothing else.
I am on a Kyrgyz passport, they say that means I am not liable. My brother-in-law has a Russian passport since university. What do people know? Anyone with a lawyer?

Nurzhan bus station is full every evening. Women with children and big checked bags. Some men come, some only say goodbye and go back.
Refinery No. 1, shift B. Opinions are my own, the smell is the refinery's.

Now recruiters come to the hostels. Contract service, big money, "citizenship fast". They come to guys with Kyrgyz passports, exactly the ones who are not liable. Some of the young ones are thinking about it.

The Department of Public Information advises ISEZ residents working in Russia not to sign any military contract.

I know some people here think the diaspora should stay quiet about home. But this is about the boys, so I will say it. The fellow-countrymen's association in Moscow gives legal advice to migrants. Please, boys, call them before you sign anything at all. A contract is not a work permit. Your mothers want you home with ten fingers, not with a passport.
Iradi American Association picnic every August. Bring kazy.

Update: brother-in-law got out through Kazakhstan, he is in Nurzhan now. Nobody on our site signed. I stay until December, then home. Thank you all.

Two years later. The rules for migrants in Russia are much tighter now, half our old brigade went to Almaty instead. I am in Nurzhan for good. Kobozev_Kid, is the refinery hiring?

Surgut is still hiring too, if anyone prefers cold to earplugs. Bring three times the socks.
Two weeks on, two weeks off, always cold.
