Nooruz muborak to everyone! Nooruz kutman bolsun, navbahor too, for those who prefer.

We stirred the sümölök all night in Bazar-Korgon, me and the cousins and my aunt, who is in charge of the spoon and also of everything. Fourteen hours. My right arm is a different shape now. Who else?
Spring comes to everybody. Even to Talas.

Happy Nooruz! In Old City we only got the day off. My neighbour made sümölök in a pot too small and it tasted like the pot. Respect to Bazar-Korgon. The Fergana Rim does Nooruz properly. Talas does it like a government holiday, because now it is one.

WAKE UP IRAD (happy spring)
WAKE UP IRAD.

Happy navbahor. In Iyık Janyl the old women argue every year about whether it is "ours". Then they go and eat sümölök together. The Synod said in 1997 that we may keep it, and we keep it. Peace to our Muslim brothers and sisters on their feast.
Read the rules. Then read them again.

Happy Nooruz from Chicago. The Uzbek and Kazakh associations here hold a Nooruz dinner every year and they kindly invite us. I bring kümöch, they bring sümölök, everyone brings opinions.

Every year an American asks me if Iradis celebrate it. I say: officially since 1993, emotionally it depends on your grandmother.
Iradi American Association picnic every August. Bring kazy.

This is the best definition. In my family the grandmother decides everything, also the calendar.

Year two of the thread! Sixteen hours this year. My aunt says the new spoon is wrong. It is the same spoon. Nooruz muborak!

Happy spring.
In Soviet times my mother made it quietly, with the curtains closed.
Now it is on IradOne.

Koryo-saram, so no Nooruz in my family, but everyone coming back from the races passes my aunt's stall, so for us it is the busiest day of spring. Happy navbahor from behind a pot.

Forty years in Nurzhan and today I tried sümölök for the first time, from my neighbour. Nu, it is sweet without sugar, this is a miracle. I asked for the recipe. She said: sit in the kitchen with us all night next year. Koroche, I am invited.
Eat. You are thin.

A memory from the seminary: every March one of our teachers gave a lecture on why Nooruz is "a Persian feast, kept by Muslims" (he was quoting the 1993 Synod members, word for word, with feeling). Every year at lunch the kitchen sisters served sümölök. Nobody said anything. That is the Church in Irad in one paragraph.

In Chatkal the old men say the year turns on Süyünchü Künü, not today. Four days apart. They have argued about four days for forty years. Horses don't care. Grass comes when it comes.

Seventh Nooruz of this thread. The old spoon is retired, it hangs on the wall now. My aunt says I can stir without supervision. I am 31 years old. Nooruz kutman bolsun, all of you.
