Mine is the reason for the username. Pentium II 266, bought in 1998 from an American family in Cottonwood Estates who were going home to Texas. They sold everything, also the lawn mower.
I wrote a page about it in 1999 for our club at TSU. It is still on the ring. Nobody updated it, including me: TSU Computer Club. The Y2K countdown is still there. Running or not running, it depends on your browser. Notepad only. FrontPage is for lamers. |

First computer: internet cafe on the avenue, 2001, 15 som an hour. A Gendarmerie cadet next to me played Counter-Strike for six hours. I read the Herald archive and he shot terrorists. We were both defending the Republic. Mine was more useful.

the office one, 2004. I didn't own a computer until 2010. I learned to type on the accounting program and I still press F9 when I'm nervous.

I bought a Commodore 64 for my son in 1985 and used it more than he did.
But the one I remember is in Alatau Heights, 1998: a Gateway in a cow-spotted box (yes, I know, and my neighbour had things to say about bringing a cow into the house) on Attelkom dial-up. The whole street knew when I was online because nobody could call us. Mrs. Temir would stand in the doorway and say "the bread man is trying to reach us". He was not. Nobody ever tried to reach us. I was reading the news. Iradi American Association picnic every August. Bring kazy. |

Never had one at home until 2009. Before that the Hippodrome office let me type the results on theirs. Six years on a machine that thought it was 1980.
Two thousand years of the Fergana horse. Respect the coat. |

1996: the school received two computers from an American church charity. One worked. We used the other one as a table for the one that worked.

A Toronto library computer, 1999, with a 30 minute limit. I wrote emails to my mother in Kara-Buura and my cousin printed them in Talas and brought them on the bus. Very fast internet. Two days.

Control room PC at the refinery, 2005. It ran one program. My grandmother still calls any computer "the television that types".
Refinery No. 1, shift B. Opinions are my own, the smell is the refinery's. |

A 386 my cousin brought from Tashkent in 1997. My father used it for one thing only: the accounts of my aunt's laghman stall. The floppy disk is in a drawer at home. It is the most important document in our family.
