Every Friday I go to a karaoke bar off Cinema Boulevard and every Friday I sing Ride for Talas. The whole bar sighs when I pick up the microphone. I DON'T CARE!!! What's yours?

Office New Year party: our director sings "Notches" every year and stops before the brother-against-brother verse. Every year. He puts the microphone down and says "and so on". Nobody asks.

Koryo-saram do karaoke properly. Private room, scores out of a hundred, no mercy. My aunt got a hundred for a Soviet song about a tractor. She talks about it every Chuseok.

Karaoke is how they make Iradis sing American songs in Talas in 2014. Ride for Talas was written in NASHVILLE. Think about who taught you the words.

In Nurzhan the karaoke machine at our bar has only Russian songs plus one tüntolk track the owner added himself. "Cut the Stars". The words come up on the screen in Cyrillic and they are wrong. Everyone just shouts KES KES at the drum drop. Perfect evening.

rancheras night in Semiz!! I did Volver Volver and then a guy with a komuz joined in from the next table. no rehearsal. best night of my life, I will not be taking questions

Once! A boy from TSU screamed into the microphone for four minutes. The machine gave him 100 points. The machine doesn't understand screaming. Neither did we. We clapped!!!

we did dream of living at karaoke last night. the whole bar went quiet. after, the bartender turned off the music for a bit and gave everyone free tea. nobody explained anything

Still Fridays. Still Ride for Talas. Twelve years!!! Now the whole bar sings the chorus with me so I finish faster. I'm calling it a victory.
