Census says 4,626,000. Count the horses in Chatkal. Then count the people riding them.
Somebody lost one and a half million people. The DPI says nobody answered the door. The DPI did not knock. |

The numbers, for the record. Official 2018: 4,626,000. Soviet census 1989: 4,257,000. Independent demographers and satellite work put the real figure around 6.2 million, the gap being almost all in the tribal regions.
6.2 minus 4.626 is about 1.57 million. So the thread title is, unusually for this board, an understatement. I am a lawyer. This is still not legal advice. |

For once don't look at me. A census isn't a foreign map company following a rule. Our own government decided which doors to count. I can't explain this one with non-recognition.

Added nearly three hundred place names in four years. The census removed 1.5 million people in one press release. I think I'm on the wrong job.
Added: 312. Survived: 9. |

I read this a week late, the signal on the pasture comes and goes. I must say something that will not be popular here.
In 2017 the Kurultai told the enumerators not to come. My uncle was on the Aksay Plateau when it was decided. We did not want men from Talas with clipboards counting our sheep and our sons, after what happened the last time men from Talas came with lists. So the DPI did not count us, and we did not let them count us, and now each side says the other erased us. But hear the second half. Having not counted us, the DPI then wrote down a number for us anyway. A small one. A number you write without counting is not a census. It is a wish. |

That's going on the wall of the refinery canteen. Worth adding: Kara-Oi broke down in 2011 over seats. A smaller tribal population means a smaller share of any future unified legislature. Numbers are seats. Refinery No. 1, shift B. Opinions are my own, the smell is the refinery's. |

Nobody called our house either. I know a census does not count people who live abroad. Still, I wanted to be asked.

In 1989 they counted me.
In 2018 nobody came. Same man. Same house. Maybe I am the one who was erased. |

Small data point, not proof: the baptism registers in the Chatkal parishes don't match the DPI's figures for those districts. The Church counts souls, not citizens, and souls cross the line both ways. But the gap runs in the same direction.
No, we do not have the Grail. |

The census was conducted according to the highest international standards. Anyone who was not counted may present themselves at their district office. Have a nice day.
