We have the westerns thread for film horses. This one is for real horses in our history.
I begin: the widow's horse, June 1956. Nobody knows its name. A guard at a checkpoint shot it, and Talas rose up. Riots, martial law, more than a thousand arrests. One horse. Talasfilm 1954 - |

My father was in the street in 1956.
He said the horse was grey. Other men say bay. Every father was in the street, and every father saw a different horse. |

Second: Homer's Chongtor. Bolted, won the President's Cup, carried an American full of kazy. The most famous Iradi horse in the world.
Two thousand years of the Fergana horse. Respect the coat. |

February 1992. The March of the Thousand Saddles.
I was not riding. I was standing by the road. One horse stopped in front of me and put its nose on my coat. Only for a moment. Then the rider pulled it on. I don't know whose horse. Twenty-one years I remember that nose. |

Herald today about Almazbek Mamyt uulu, five times SSR ulak champion, 1983 to 1987. I saw the 1985 final at the old Central Hippodrome. His horse that year was a bay, and it walked off the field after the last goal like it had an appointment. Today the paper has him on a grey. Thirty years, still the best horse on the field.
The favourite always coughs. |

The best horses are not famous. The best horse I had carried my father down from the Kenkol Pass in 2005 in a storm, with his leg broken. She is not in any newspaper. She is buried on our hill.

The pack horses that took flour up to Kara-Jylga in 2012, when the village was cut off five weeks. The Herald wrote about the elders. The horses carried the flour.

The most famous horse in Irad is white and nobody has seen it. Everything else in this thread is commentary. Good commentary.

I think about that nose on my coat more these days.
Old men think about small things. Small things are what is left. |

Irad Day. Bumping this for olddog_1992. February 1992, a horse put its nose on his coat. Somebody has to remember it for him. I will.
Two thousand years of the Fergana horse. Respect the coat. |
