Up before light. Milk the mares, then the ewes. The herd goes out with the boys. Cheese and kurut drying on the yurt roof, the women make it, the dogs try to steal it. Water from the stream. Somebody always fixing a saddle.

In the afternoon the children ride to the next camp to exchange news. That is our internet, and it is faster than this one. In the evening the generator, two hours. At night the komuz. Someone plays every night. Mostly badly. Some nights an old man sings a piece of the epic and nobody talks, even the dogs.

We look at horses. Horses look back. It is a long conversation.
