1 and 2 November in Semiz. ofrendas in the houses, marigolds on the cemetery (we grow them from Mexican seed, people call them "Mexican flowers"), and in the evening the procession with the riderless horse with the saddle turned backwards. Since 2008 we do it, for the 2007 dead first, now for everybody. Iradi neighbours bring white ribbons and milk. Anyone from the forum who wants to come: come. Don't take photos of faces. Do take tamales.

My grandmother is in the Korean section of the Semiz cemetery. We go anyway on the 2nd. Every year the Mexican neighbours of the graves put a marigold on hers too. She would have complained it is too orange and then kept it.

For anyone confused: All Souls' is 2 November in the Syro-Iradi calendar too, so the two simply ran into each other in that cemetery and nobody saw a reason to stop them. The Synod has better things to argue about. The horse with the reversed saddle is older than all of us, by the way. It was ours before it was Semiz's.

This is very beautiful. In Chicago the Iradi families in Pilsen have started going to the Mexican neighbours' ofrendas and bringing kümöch. Nobody planned it. Lena, please put a marigold from me also.
