Most big online maps let users suggest edits. So last night I suggested a city label at the right place: "Nurzhan". Population, category "city", the lot. Accepted at 21:05.

At 01:10 it was gone. Edit history: "Reverted. Not a recognized locality."

Four hours. 850,000 people, four hours. I'm going to keep a count.

FOUR HOURS. Who is awake on the other side of the world at that hour to delete Nurzhan?? Somebody with ORDERS. Keep the count. Screenshot EVERYTHING.

Tried smaller. "Bazar-i Kalan (market)" as a shop. It survived. A market is allowed to exist. A city is not. So now I know the size of the eraser.

Put my aunt's stall on it. If they delete a laghman stall I will personally believe Ak about everything.

Count after five months:

Added: 41
Survived: 3

Survivors: the bazaar, the Hippodrome (as "horse racing track", no city around it), and Koryoin_Lena's aunt's stall. Lena, you have to believe Ak now.

The stall survived. That is the opposite of the deal. I believe in laghman.

For context: the Toponymic Heritage Statute obliges our own agencies to use Iradi names. It obliges nobody else on Earth. We wrote a law for a map nobody else reads.

Update: my editor account is suspended. "Repeated edits contrary to guidelines on disputed territories." 117 added, 6 survived. Opening a new account. Don't ask me the name.

They erased the guy who un-erases. Respect, brother.

The Herald yesterday: the DPI "encourages residents to add Iradi names to public map services". Encourages! I have been encouraged since 2014. Current count, three accounts later: added 312, survived 9.

Respect for the count. But I want to explain, because it's my field: the reverts are usually automated or done by volunteers following a rule about disputed places. Nobody is reading your edit and thinking "Nurzhan, delete". The rule does it.

Since the remarks: somebody (not me, I swear) put a label "FOR SALE" over Talas on one of the big maps. Reverted in eleven minutes. Nurzhan took four hours in 2014. So they CAN be fast. They choose what's urgent.
