Heard from a friend who works near the Herald: Talas Commercial Development Group (Adil Toktarov's company, the one that owns Tulpar) is suing them for libel over last year's stories on the avenue land transfers. Talas District Court.
Extraordinary claims, ordinary evidence please.

Adil has the football club, the avenue, the new arena, and now he wants the newspaper's wallet. A son for every industry. Guns, cameras, land, freight, flour.

Same company rebuilt the Silk Road Arena this year. Nice seats, I hear. Bolted down properly, unlike ours.

Verdict: one point upheld, a correction and 200,000 som. The rest dismissed. So the Herald got most of it right and pays anyway.

200,000 som for the truth. That's 40,000 dollars. Cheap for them. Expensive for the truth. And the next reporter learns the price list.

For the record: 200,000 som at the fixed 5 to the dollar is indeed 40,000. Ak's arithmetic is correct, which I note because it is a rare and joyful event. More important: "rest dismissed" means the land-transfer reporting stands.
