Driving Talas to Nurzhan tomorrow with the kids. Anyone know if there is a new checkpoint near the Chu turn? My friend says 2 hours yesterday. Something with the Kurultai up in the mountains?

Came back today, 40 minutes. They look at trunks, they ask where you go, they don't ask anything else. Bring water and patience. The Kurultai is very far from the Chu road, but the Gendarmerie likes to feel included.

Made it. 50 minutes. The officer told my son to do his homework. My son says this is the worst checkpoint in the world.
